Eric Perlman

Hi. 👋

I’m a computer scientist who fell through the looking glass into world of large scientific data.

It started with my graduate work at at Johns Hopkins University, where I helped build the Johns Hopkins Turbulence Database and the Open Connectome Project.

As I was finishing, I joined Davi Bock’s lab at HHMI’s Janelia (Farm) Research Campus, where I oversaw the computational infrastructure to assemble a full adult fly brain, which later grew into a complete connectome as part of FlyWire.

Post-Janelia, I found a niche for freelancing, touching on all parts of the computational stack, including storage architectures, file formats, analysis and visualization. It’s a privilege to get to help scientists unlock knowledge from their data.

Now, as a founding member of the Image Cooperative, I’m looking forward to a similar adventure, alongside my fellow members.
